Courage 💫

Writer: EleaElea

I came across Susan David, Ph.D.’s work on "Emotional Agility" last year, and it resonated with me instantly.

Her overall concept aligns closely with my own approach.

We don't talk about controlling or managing emotions. Emotions are simply part of who we are: something to live with rather than something we have to fix, whether at work or at home.

🌤 With my clients, I often use the term “Emotional Freedom,” which carries a similar meaning for me. It’s about moving with our emotions, not suppressing them and understanding that they might come with some constraints.

📩 In Susan’s latest newsletter, she writes about courage, and I liked the image she used to illustrate (see below). It highlights how courage is something we show every day, in ways that are personal to each of us.

📖 In "The War of Art", Steven Pressfield expands on this, delving into courage’s ever-present counterpart: Resistance. He emphasizes that courage is showing up, every day, regardless of the outcome. It doesn’t matter if the work is good or if you even use it later.

What matters is that you showed up and fought the resistance. 💥

Sometimes, the greatest act of courage is just that: showing up. Whether it's meeting a friend, even when you don’t feel like talking, attending a networking event even if you stick to familiar faces, or cooking a meal even if it doesn’t turn out perfect (or even good).

It’s the act of doing that matters.

💛 Every day, we have the choice to trust over fear. Let’s keep choosing courage.
